Mini-experiment on social networking and Twitter

Tonight, I sat down at my computer with the intent of listing several more items in our store Debonaire Flea Market . Well, as usual, it didn't take much to sidetrack me, and I ended up on Twitter. While I was reading many interesting posts from the people I follow, and checking out some of their blogs, I decided to try a mini-experiment. This mini-experiment found me tweeting about an item that I had listed (at least I had accomplished something). Prior to the tweet, I checked the item I had listed and it had 5 views. I then waited for about 15 minutes and rechecked my views, and to my surprise, this item now had 25 views. I know that this isn't typical, but I found it to be surprising, and a big testimony to how well social networking can work. I'm not good at using SEO, don't have a facebook page, and only use Twitter, and my blog for social networking. I have been trying to find ways to drive traffic to our store because when we checked our visits from last year, we have received considerable less visits than we did this time last year. One of the things that I think has affected the number of our visits is the fact that e-Bay now sends feeds to Google, so we don't get as much traffic thru Google (last yr Google was about 40% of our traffic, this yr it is less than 25%). Anyway, if you are a small seller on e-Bay, Etsy, or any other market place, try your own experiments and see if you can find new ways to drive visitors to your store. Good luck:)

We will be holding a cyber Monday sale at Debonaire Flea Market, so check back here on Sunday, November 29th to get the details.

Thanksgiving - what does it mean to you?

Thanksgiving - what does that mean to you was the question that I asked my grandson a couple of days ago. As usual, his answer amazed me. He said that Thanksgiving was a time that he enjoyed spending time with family most and that he also enjoyed the good food. He also said it was a time to be thankful for everything that he has. All of this coming from the mind of a 10 year old. This started my thought process on what Thanksgiving has meant to me over the years and what traditions we have shared and passed on. When thinking about it, I discovered that his meaning of Thanksgiving was the same as mine, and it had been the same as far back as I can remember. I remember as a child going to my grandparents for Thanksgiving and being surrounded by family, some that we only saw a couple times a year. And the food was always great!! After getting married, we divided our holiday between my family and my spouse’s, but both meals were enjoyed with family and good food, and being thankful for what we had. Now that we have grandchildren (and a lot of the family members we used to celebrate with are no longer around), we still have the same traditions of good food, quality family time, and being thankful for what we have.
Hope your Thanksgiving creates new memories and brings back many great memories for you.
May your blessings be many, your sorrows be few,
and joy and happiness surround you in everything you do.
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Veterans Day everyone

I was looking back over the last year of my posts, and in November of last year, I had an ongoing post titled “Today, I am Thankful for”. As I was reading through the old blog, I realize how much of those things that I am still thankful for. One of the main things I am thankful for is “freedom”. Today, November 11, 2009 - Veterans Day, I would to join the rest of the country and take the time to thank all the veterans who have helped to keep our country free.

A little history about November 11th - Veterans Day and it’s beginning: In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the ending of World War 1 was declared, and an armistice to cease fighting was signed. This led to November 11th being declared as “Armistice Day”. Thru the years, the name was eventually changed to “Veterans Day” to honor all veterans. Today, it is still celebrated as a way to honor veterans and all military persons.

Some of the ways veterans are honored include free meals, parades, and discounts or free admission to events. Some stores run sales and offer veterans additional discounts.
In our store, Debonaire Flea Market, we are offering a 10% off purchase price discount today only for everyone. This discount is on the purchase price of the item and does not include shipping fees, and cannot be used with any other promotion. Please email us with code promo1111 to receive your discount. This sale is good November 11, 2009 only and ends at 11:59 pm EST.
Happy Veterans Day, and a big thank you to all veterans and military personnel.
