Happy Veterans Day everyone

I was looking back over the last year of my posts, and in November of last year, I had an ongoing post titled “Today, I am Thankful for”. As I was reading through the old blog, I realize how much of those things that I am still thankful for. One of the main things I am thankful for is “freedom”. Today, November 11, 2009 - Veterans Day, I would to join the rest of the country and take the time to thank all the veterans who have helped to keep our country free.

A little history about November 11th - Veterans Day and it’s beginning: In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the ending of World War 1 was declared, and an armistice to cease fighting was signed. This led to November 11th being declared as “Armistice Day”. Thru the years, the name was eventually changed to “Veterans Day” to honor all veterans. Today, it is still celebrated as a way to honor veterans and all military persons.

Some of the ways veterans are honored include free meals, parades, and discounts or free admission to events. Some stores run sales and offer veterans additional discounts.
In our store, Debonaire Flea Market, we are offering a 10% off purchase price discount today only for everyone. This discount is on the purchase price of the item and does not include shipping fees, and cannot be used with any other promotion. Please email us with code promo1111 to receive your discount. This sale is good November 11, 2009 only and ends at 11:59 pm EST.
Happy Veterans Day, and a big thank you to all veterans and military personnel.

October is breast cancer awareness month

October is breast cancer awareness month. Everywhere you look, you are reminded of the efforts going into finding a cure for and helping people deal with the effects of breast cancer. NFL players are wearing pink, stores feature displays and advertisements, and television commercials are all supporting breast cancer awareness and the search for a cure. Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer (have lost a friend or family member, is currently fighting the battle, or is a survivor). To do our part for breast cancer awareness, we have listed an auction with 100% of the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity. This item is a 3" tall miniature bear figurine made of crushed pecan shells. This figurine is in a praying stance, and we think maybe she is praying for a cure. Take a look at this cute little figurine at Breast-Cancer-Charity-Auction

While you are there, check out the other items in our store, Debonaire Flea Market.

Help in the fight against breast cancer by helping spread the word to everyone that early detection is the key to survival. Maybe one day soon, there will be a cure.

Remember the days before vacuum cleaners when cleaning a rug was accomplished by using a rug beater to clean a rug?

Remember the days before vacuum cleaners when cleaning a rug was accomplished by hanging it and using a rug beater to beat it clean? Well, we have come across some very unique items - miniature rug beaters. At an estate sale, we purchased several different miniature rug beaters that range in size from 5 1/4 x 2 to 7 x 3 1/4 . These miniatures are replicas of the original tools that were used many years ago, and feature different designs including double circles & hearts, animals, and girl shapes. These items are in very good shape, although we don’t know how old they are. Each one is made of wire with wooden handles (most are black wire).
Clink on our store link Debonaire Flea Market to view miniature versions of these once popular cleaning tools, or purchase one today as a reminder of years and times gone by.

Quick inexpensive decorating idea - try Window Clings

Need a quick inexpensive decorating idea - here is a great one to try. Window clings.

Window clings will cling to most non-porous surfaces, and can be used on a lot of different surfaces and several different ways. Some possible uses for clings are on doors, dressers, walls, refrigerators, other wooden objects, and of course, windows. They seem to stay on the surface well, and are very easily removed. With clings, you can decorate any room, and also quickly decorate for a party. The good thing about using window clings for decoration is that when you are done, they can be easily removed from the surface, and another design added (or the object left undecorated). Clings can be used over and over again. It is much easier to remove clings than to cover surfaces that have been painted with several different colors. One negative note to mention is that if you put the cling against a surface with the wrong side down, there is a possibility that the paint may fade onto the surface.

Think outside the box, and clings can be used to decorate almost anything. They also make great party favors or gifts.

If you are interested in purchasing some cling sets cheaply, check out our ebay store Debonaire Flea Market . We have several different color clings listed (in sets of 6) for 75 cents per sheet including shipping. The clings that listed are new and include Looney Tunes, Small Soldiers, Teletubbies, Kittens, and an educational aide group that features colors.

Also listed in our store are window decoration (suncatcher) sets that also make great party favors, or gifts. We currently have a Suzy's Zoo duck design in stock. Please don’t confuse these with the clings, because they aren’t as functional as clings.

Grab a set of clings today, and let your imagination be your guide!!!!!!!
