E-Bay has made some major changes in their fee structure, so after listing many auctions with a starting fee of only 99 cents (and no reserve), after April 19th, we will no longer be listing items this way. We are still in the process of deciding what we want to do, but like everything else in life, changes are something we have to learn to live with (or without). Currently, we have several items - collector baseball cards - listed with a 99 cent starting bid, so if you are interested, stop in and check them out. Here is a link to our ebay page : http://myworld.ebay.com/deb6999/ VOL (Virtual Online Learning) has moved to a new site. You can check out the new site with the link included on this blog (click on link to VOL). I haven't had much time to check out the site yet, but what I have seen, it seems to be interesting. Have a great day - and enjoy life's changes:)

Happy April 1st

Today, while going thru some items I had purchased, I was shining a bottle and out popped a genie. The genie was so relieved at being released that I was granted three wishes. Here are the three wishes that I made: 1. Peace for everyone in the world - no more fighting and wars. 2. The end to the recession and for everyone in the world to have great paying jobs, plenty of food, a safe and warm place to live, and for Japan to return to their pre-tsunami lifestyle. 3. This blogpost will feature a post daily for the last 26 days of 2010, and will list something that I am thankful for in 2010 alphabetically (beginning with “A” and following thru to Dec 31st and the letter “Z”). Last week a former instructor of mine passed away, and in an article that he had written he challenged us to remember to live, so with this continuing blogpost, I am going to do just that - think of all the good things in life and all the things I have to be thankful for in 2010.
With that said, and beginning with the letter “A” for me this is a no-brainer. The first thing I am thankful for in life is my grandson, whose name just happens to begin with the letter “A” and who is also very awesome. Last week, he shot his first deer. He has gone deer hunting for the last two years, and now he can add this to his list of accomplishments. Added to his accomplishments that I have had the privilege of witnessing in 2010 are hitting an out of the park homerun in baseball; several baskets including a 3 point shot in basketball; and several touchdowns in football. My grandson has given me so many joyous moments that I can’t even count them, but about every great memory within the last 11 years has included him. So as I look back on my journey thru 2010, I am thankful for my awesome grandson (whose name also begins with "A").

Today is the 2nd day of our 26 days of 2010 blogpost, which leads us to the letter “B”. For today’s post, I am thankful for blogging. Although blogging began in the 1990's, I didn’t start my blog until a couple of years ago. If it wasn’t for the changes in technology (blogging, tweeting, texting, etc), blog posts like this one would not be possible. I am thankful that I have been able to blog in 2010 and am looking forward to the next new technological communication breakthrough.

Today is the 3rd day of our 26 days of 2010 post, and today’s letter is “C”. For today’s post, I have chosen to blog about changes. Changes make life interesting. Changes can be good or bad depending on how we view them. Changes can also be of our own making, or from things that we cannot control. Changes can help us find our way in life or get in the way of life. Regardless of how they are viewed, changes are an important part of life that (for the most part) I am thankful for.

Today is the 4th day of our blog post, and the letter of the alphabet is “D”. Today’s post is going to be about dreams. Dreams add spice to our life. Dreams can be the beginning of a goal, and can also help us to reach our goals. Dreams can also be a way to remember someone. Years ago, a famous speech began with “I have a dream”. Today most people still have some type of a dream. This is the end of the 4th post, except to wish you “pleasant dreams”.

Today is the 5th day of our 26 days of 2010 post and today’s letter of the alphabet is “E”. One of my favorite things in 2010 would have to be “entertainment”. I have enjoyed participating in many forms of entertainment including watching & participating in my grandson’s sports and academic activities, going to live shows & movies, shopping, dining out, watching tv, hosting and attending parties. All of these and many more forms of entertainment have made 2010 a much more enjoyable year.

Today is the 6th day of our blog post and today’s letter of the alphabet is “F”. When thinking about the letter “F”, I have double things to be thankful for 2010 - family and friends. Relationships with family and friends are one of the things I am most thankful for in 2010, and these relationships are a very important part of life.

Today is the 7th day of our 26 days of 2010 post and today’s letter is “G”. For today’s post, I have chosen to blog about goals. Goals help me to accomplish many things. I have set goals that can be reached easily, and others that take much longer time (months or years). One of the good things about goals are they can be changed as the need arises. This blog post is one of the goals that I have set to help me end the year on a pleasant note by acknowledging all the things I have to be thankful for.

Today, December 13, is the 8th day of our 2010 thankful blog post and today’s letter is “H”. For today’s post, one of the things that I think I am most thankful in 2010 is “heat”. Our weather during the summer and spring months included extremely high temperatures, even setting new records. This week has been extremely cold (wind chill factors today were below 0) so I am thankful for the heat that we had in the summer. Right now my house is pretty warm because we have a wood stove, but I am anxiously waiting for summer and spring to return.

Today is the 9th day of our 2010 thankful blog post and today’s letter is “I”. For the letter “I”, I have chosen to blog about independence. I am thankful that I live in a country that is independent, and that I can live a life that is independent. I am free to make my own choices and to live with the consequences of those choices. One of the greatest things about our country is the fact that we have our freedom and independence.

Today, December 15, is the 10th day of our 2010 thankful blogpost and today’s letter is “J”. For today, my blogpost is about jogging. Jogging is a great way to reduce stress, and is also a way to stay healthy. Jogging can also allows you enjoy nature and to be outside.

Today is the 11th day of our 2010 thankful blogpost and today’s letter is “K”. For today, I have chosen to blog about kindness. Kindness is a great thing to pass along to others. Kindness means being considerate to others. If more people in the world practiced kindness, the world would be a better place. Several years I followed a blog that practiced kindness Tuesdays where everyone was encouraged to do a kindness to someone without the person knowing. That is a practice that I need to continue daily.

Today is the 12th day of our 2010 thankful blogpost and today’s letter is “L”. For today, I have chosen to blog about life. Life is all around us. Life is our existence and all of the activities in it. Sometimes life is great, other times too short, and still other times, things happen that make us question the meaning of life. . Life is what you make of it, so roll with the punches, keep a positive outlook and enjoy life.

Today is the 13th day of our 2010 thankful blogpost and I are blogging about the letter “M”. For this blogpost, I am writing about miracles. This is the season for miracles. Many people are in giving moods and spirits, and they make miracles happen for others. Miracles can happen anytime, so we must believe in what we want to happen.

Today is the 14th day of our 2010 thankful blogpost and we are blogging about the letter “N”. For this post, I am writing about nights. Nights are one of my favorite parts of a day. When night falls, it is time to relax, and reflect on what has happened during the day. Night also signals a time for me to rest, forget about the current day and to prepare for the next day. Have a good night:)

Today is the 15th day of our 2010 thankful blogpost and today’s letter is “O”. Optimism is the word I have chosen to blog about and to be thankful for today. Looking at circumstances optimistically and believing something good will come out of everything that happens makes life enjoyable and makes the future much brighter.

Today is the 16th day of our 2010 thankful blogpost and with the letter "P", I am thankful for living in the present. Living in the present is existing here and now. Living in the present is also a gift so I guess at this time of year, it may also be considered that each present day is a gift to be used and lived as we desire.

Today is the 17th day of our 2010 blogpost and today’s letter is “Q”. For today, I have chosen to write about “quiet”. Sometimes, it is nice to just sit around and listen to nothing, to just enjoy the quiet around you. I am thankful for the chance to have the stillness and peacefulness of a few minutes of peace and quietness.

Today is the 18th day of our 2010 blogpost and today’s letter is "R". For today, I have chosen to write about rest and relaxation. At this time of year, it is good to take a few minutes out for rest and relaxation to be able to rejuvenate yourself. Changes in the weather, holiday celebrations and the end of the year is fast approaching, so a few minutes of rest and relaxation are something that I am thankful especially at this time of year.

Today is the 19th day of our Thankful blogpost and today’s letter is "S". For today, I am thankful for surprises. Surprises can happen anywhere and at anytime. For 2010, I am thankful for the all the great surprises I have encountered and also for the experiences and lessons that I have learned from the not so great surprises. Hope your surprises continue to be great!

Today is the 20th day of our Thankful blogpost and today’s letter is "T". For today, I am thankful for "today". Today is the first day of the rest of my life, so what better thing to be thankful for. I can begin each day thankful for what I have and for a new beginning or continuation of the rest of my life.

Today is the 21st day of our Thankful blogpost, and today’s letter is "U". For today, I am thankful for understanding. I am thankful when other people show me understanding and hope that I continue to show understanding to others. Understanding can help when dealing with many situations because there are several different ways of looking at all situations.

Today is the 22nd day of our Thankful blogpost and today’s letter is "V". For today, I am thankful for veterans. I am very thankful for our military veterans, but am also thankful for veterans of all types because they have knowledge and history that helps to shape our world. Without the knowledge and history of veterans, it would be hard to accomplish a lot of things.

Today is the 23rd day of our Thankful blogpost and today’s letter is "W". For today, I am thankful for warmth. With the changes in the weather over the last few weeks (and the fact that I have had a terrible cold with fever and chills), I am thankful for finally being able to feel warmth and to be able to stay warm. Even with the snow and cold temperatures, it is great to be able to sit in front of a warm fire, wrapped warmly in a blanket sipping a warm drink. So for today, I am very thankful for warmth.

Today is the 24th day of our Thankful blogpost and today’s letter is "X". For today, I am thankful for the symbol/letter "x". The letter x is one of the least commonly used letters, but the symbol "x" is used quite frequently. "X" is sometimes used as a marker (place to designate a signature, X marks the spot, etc). "X" can also be used in place of a signature for someone who can’t sign their name. "X" combined with "O" can be a way to end a letter XOXO. X’s and O’s are used to play tic-tac-toe. So for today, I am thankful for the letter "X" and it’s different uses as a symbol.

Today is the 25th day of our blogpost and today’s letter is "Y". For today, I am thankful for this "year". This year has brought many highlights and challenges. As the year comes to an end, I am thankful that I have survived this year, and am looking forward to beginning a new year filled with many new highlights and challenges.

Today is the 26th day of our blogpost, and for the letter "Z", I am posting about "Zero". There are zero days left in this year, zero letters left in this blogpost. Another good thing about the number zero is that with zeros tomorrows date will be 01/01/11. Have a safe and happy New Year. Happy 1/1/11.

Black Friday Sale - check out these deals

Hello everyone. Being Thankful.

Looking back thru my blogposts, one of my firsts posts was one that was probably my most interesting. The post I am talking about is from 2008, and it was titled “Today I am Thankful For”. Each day from November 18 thru the end of 2008, I posted something that I was thankful for. The postings were a great way to start the day and it was a great way to remember how many things I had to be grateful for. When I didn’t post at the beginning of the day, I had the entire day to think about things that I was grateful for. To me, it was a very inspiring way to end my year. Hmmm, maybe I will end this year with a similar blogpost.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://deb6999.blogspot.com/2010/10/what-way-to-end-year-being-thankful.html' title='What a way to end the year!! They don’t have the chance to experience the freedoms that Halloween used to be associated with. Now Halloween is usually centered around a town square, or similar area where businesses distribute treats to the ghosts and goblins. Door-to-door trick or treating is almost unheard of - many people don’t even know their neighbors. When we were young, this was like a rite of passage for children. It was safe to go trick or treating door-to-door thru your neighborhood (or town for that matter) and you knew everyone. Treats included many homemade items like popcorn balls, baked cookies, and cupcakes. Children in the 21st century don’t have the freedoms we had, but will still have their memories of celebrating Halloween in their own special way. Have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Hosting a Foreign Exchange Student can be a rewarding experience

Have you ever wanted to know what another country was like? Ever wanted to know the different customs and ways other countries celebrate, and how their day to day activities vary from yours? In the 1990's we hosted several different foreign exchange students through a group called Youth For Understanding (YFU). The students we hosted were from Germany, Denmark, and Brazil. Each student left a lasting mark on our lives. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to have these students in our home for 10 months each, and to learn about their cultures and for them to learn about ours. There were trying times (there always are when someone new comes for an extended stay), but we must say, the good times and memories outweigh the bad times. We have been fortunate enough for some of the students to have come back to visit. They have brought their spouses and we have had a great time visiting with them. The last visit was actually only a couple of months ago. We also stay in touch thru email. It is interesting to see them with their families and to see the wonderful adults they have become. It is also great because our daughter was an only child. She now feels like she has brothers and sisters. Her children have learned a lot about the different cultures, and countries thru their visits. They have also learned a few new words in different languages . If you ever have a chance to host a student from another country, it can be a very rewarding experience.

October Virtual Online Learning Blogging Challenge

Guess what? A whole month has passed since the last Virtual Online Learning Blogging Challenge, so here we are again. This challenge is for members of VOL to post five different blogposts in one day. It is a great way to keep your blog active. I have only been a member of VOL for a little over a month, but have learned a lot in the short time. VOL offers many different training sessions and challenges and you only participate in the ones you want too. There are many helpful people in the group, and there is also a message board if you have problems or need help. A few days ago, there was a training session on "Tweeking your blog". Although I did attend the session, I haven’t had a chance to implement all of the ideas I came away with. If you would like more info on VOL or interested in joining, check out the website. Virtual Online Learning

Check out our newly listed Ebay items - over 70 items in auction format

Hello everyone. Some households were connected by a “party line”. A “party line” was when more than one household was connected on the same phone line (and other people on your line could listen to your conversations). With newer updated technology, it became possible for phone lines to be run to each household individually, and party lines became a thing of the past. Not too long ago, most households had one phone line, and today, most individuals have their own phone lines. Years ago, receiving a phone call or a written letter thru the mail was a great way to stay in touch with other people you didn’t see daily. Today, most people are in daily contact with others thru the use of cell phones, IM, email and other technologically advanced communication methods. Today, computers are used everywhere - schools, stores, hospital, banks, most private and public places and information is passed along at an unbelievably fast rate. This is my 4th blog post in the VOL blogging challenge. Years ago, blogging wasn’t heard of and the only way a story could have been distributed was thru a paper or news article, and today, we can reach millions of readers with just the click of a button. If communication technology continues like this, where will we be in the next 30 years?

E-Bay vs Etsy - any comments for casual sellers?

eBay vs Etsy - What are your thoughts for casual sellers?
We have been a member of eBay since 2005, and have also had a store. With the changes that eBay has implemented, we found that it was not feasible to keep the store open, so we closed it. We are still listing some items thru auctions, but haven’t been very successful. Thru this post, we are hoping to get a few new ideas about selling on these two venues. We have just signed up for a store on Etsy, and will be listing handcrafted and vintage items. Here are a few comparisons that we have already found regarding these two sites:

eBay
we have listed over 250 items in the last 90 days, and only sold 10
can list most items
100 auctions starting @ 99 cents or less free per month (if you don’t have a store)
auction listing length time - max 10 days
great groups to join & wonderful Bump sites
eBay has been running several auction listing promotions

Etsy
haven't had a chance to record listing/sales records yet
can only list handcrafted or vintage items or craft supplies
listing fees are 20 cents per item
listing length time - 4 months (or until sold or cancelled)
unsure about groups, but most members we have met seem to be very helpful

Anyone with any suggestions or comments, please feel free to post them. We are sure other people have experiences with these two selling venues, and we are trying to get a real perspective of both. I have been thinking about joining Virtual Online Learning (VOL) for over a year, but for one reason or another had not done it until last weekend. VOL is a virtual meetup online class that includes on all sorts of online topics such as Twitter, eBay, enhancing online presence, blogging, and ways to make money online. This group helps you to learn and understand many aspects of the internet world while motivating and challenging you
So far, within a few short days, I have already attended a very informative meetup session, and am now in the process of participating in a blogging challenge. There is also a listing challenge that I hope to participate in. According to the VOL calendar, there are many more training (informative) sessions already scheduled. From what I have seen, input from the members of the group also seems to be very helpful. There are also a lot of ideas posted to help get you get and keep motivated. I have not had time yet to check out all the information available to members of the group, but what I have already seen has been very impressive. If you haven’t checked out this group, below is a link to the site. If you have been thinking about joining, but for some reason or another haven’t, now is just as good a time as any to join.
Virtual Online Learning

Is this a sign or what???

Is this a sign????
For the past couple of months, we have been pondering about what to do with a lot of the inventory that we have had left over from days of collecting vintage items, and from our hobby, creating one of a kind handmade gifts. We had opened a store on eBay, but decided to close it due to an increase in fees. Lately, we have been listing items through auctions. Then last week, we decided to try our hand at opening a store at Etsy, a site we had heard a great deal about. We are in the process of opening our store, but do not have much inventory listed YET. During the process of trying to decide which way to go and what the best outlet(s) would be for reducing our inventory, we also received an invitation to join a group called Virtual Online Learning. This invitation came the same day we had decided to open a store thru Etsy. We decided to join Virtual Online Learning, and it was remarkable. One of the big obstacles that we were running into was trying to decide what to do with our blog and twitter sites, because we had not used them for a few months, and were not sure how to get them active and running again. The first bit of news is we're still alive and kicking, and we're back. The second bit of news is that we are no longer running a store thru e-bay. Still trying to figure out if the news about the store is good or bad. Anyway, to bring everyone up to date: When the new fee schedules went into effect, we figured it wouldn't be profitable to keep a store going, so we have closed it down. On the flip side, we will be listing many items in auction format with the beginning price of 99 cents and no reserve. Currently, we have listed several items (including some baseball card lots from 1990 sorted by team). Some of the team lots included are the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Philles, Oakland A's (Athletics), St Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and many more. These are not full team sets, but lots with different individual players per team. Check out these auctions at our new location e-bay ID deb6999 formerly Debonaire Flea Market. We will be listing new auctions frequently, so check back often. Most of the baseball cards that are listed today have an ending date within the next three to six days.

Money saving tip for Anniversary or Wedding party

Planning a big anniversary party or wedding sometime next year, then now is the time to get some nice decorations and items for that special party at greatly reduced prices. As the Christmas season ends, many stores have drastically discounted many of their remaining items and that can save you a lot of money on your party budget. This time last year, we were planning a 50th anniversary party for my parents. While in a store, I happened to look at some of the items that were being discounted, and I purchased most of my decorations, serving platters and trays, and other items that were used for the party for pennies on the dollar (most were 75 - 90% off). If you have a color theme, you can find many items at this time of the year for decorating and serving at a fraction of the price you will pay in a few months.
Another great time to purchase items for weddings, etc is right after Valentine’s Day when Valentine items go on sale. You can purchase hearts, red, pink & white decorations; and many other items that you can use for the special celebration, so plan ahead and save money while throwing a great party.

Please feel free to check out our store, Debonaire Flea Market anytime day or night. Sorry, but we don't have any discounted items that will help with your party plans at this time:)

Christmas decorations & ornaments on sale at Debonaire Flea Market

All Christmas decorations and ornaments are now on sale at Debonaire Flea Market. Well, as usual, it didn't take much to sidetrack me, and I ended up on Twitter. While I was reading many interesting posts from the people I follow, and checking out some of their blogs, I decided to try a mini-experiment. This mini-experiment found me tweeting about an item that I had listed (at least I had accomplished something). Prior to the tweet, I checked the item I had listed and it had 5 views. I then waited for about 15 minutes and rechecked my views, and to my surprise, this item now had 25 views. I know that this isn't typical, but I found it to be surprising, and a big testimony to how well social networking can work. I'm not good at using SEO, don't have a facebook page, and only use Twitter, and my blog for social networking. I have been trying to find ways to drive traffic to our store because when we checked our visits from last year, we have received considerable less visits than we did this time last year. One of the things that I think has affected the number of our visits is the fact that e-Bay now sends feeds to Google, so we don't get as much traffic thru Google (last yr Google was about 40% of our traffic, this yr it is less than 25%). Anyway, if you are a small seller on e-Bay, Etsy, or any other market place, try your own experiments and see if you can find new ways to drive visitors to your store. Good luck:)

We will be holding a cyber Monday sale at Debonaire Flea Market, so check back here on Sunday, November 29th to get the details.

Thanksgiving - what does it mean to you?

Thanksgiving - what does that mean to you was the question that I asked my grandson a couple of days ago. As usual, his answer amazed me. He said that Thanksgiving was a time that he enjoyed spending time with family most and that he also enjoyed the good food. He also said it was a time to be thankful for everything that he has. All of this coming from the mind of a 10 year old. This started my thought process on what Thanksgiving has meant to me over the years and what traditions we have shared and passed on. When thinking about it, I discovered that his meaning of Thanksgiving was the same as mine, and it had been the same as far back as I can remember. I remember as a child going to my grandparents for Thanksgiving and being surrounded by family, some that we only saw a couple times a year. And the food was always great!! After getting married, we divided our holiday between my family and my spouse’s, but both meals were enjoyed with family and good food, and being thankful for what we had. Now that we have grandchildren (and a lot of the family members we used to celebrate with are no longer around), we still have the same traditions of good food, quality family time, and being thankful for what we have.
Hope your Thanksgiving creates new memories and brings back many great memories for you.
May your blessings be many, your sorrows be few,
and joy and happiness surround you in everything you do.
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Debonaire Flea Market

Happy Veterans Day everyone

I was looking back over the last year of my posts, and in November of last year, I had an ongoing post titled “Today, I am Thankful for”. As I was reading through the old blog, I realize how much of those things that I am still thankful for. One of the main things I am thankful for is “freedom”. Today, November 11, 2009 - Veterans Day, I would to join the rest of the country and take the time to thank all the veterans who have helped to keep our country free.

A little history about November 11th - Veterans Day and it’s beginning: In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the ending of World War 1 was declared, and an armistice to cease fighting was signed. This led to November 11th being declared as “Armistice Day”. Thru the years, the name was eventually changed to “Veterans Day” to honor all veterans. Today, it is still celebrated as a way to honor veterans and all military persons.

Some of the ways veterans are honored include free meals, parades, and discounts or free admission to events. Some stores run sales and offer veterans additional discounts.
In our store, Debonaire Flea Market, we are offering a 10% off purchase price discount today only for everyone. This discount is on the purchase price of the item and does not include shipping fees, and cannot be used with any other promotion. Please email us with code promo1111 to receive your discount. This sale is good November 11, 2009 only and ends at 11:59 pm EST.
Happy Veterans Day, and a big thank you to all veterans and military personnel.

October is breast cancer awareness month

October is breast cancer awareness month. Everywhere you look, you are reminded of the efforts going into finding a cure for and helping people deal with the effects of breast cancer. NFL players are wearing pink, stores feature displays and advertisements, and television commercials are all supporting breast cancer awareness and the search for a cure. Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer (have lost a friend or family member, is currently fighting the battle, or is a survivor). To do our part for breast cancer awareness, we have listed an auction with 100% of the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity. This item is a 3" tall miniature bear figurine made of crushed pecan shells. This figurine is in a praying stance, and we think maybe she is praying for a cure. Take a look at this cute little figurine at Breast-Cancer-Charity-Auction

While you are there, check out the other items in our store, Debonaire Flea Market.

Help in the fight against breast cancer by helping spread the word to everyone that early detection is the key to survival. Well, we have come across some very unique items - miniature rug beaters. At an estate sale, we purchased several different miniature rug beaters that range in size from 5 1/4 x 2 to 7 x 3 1/4 . These miniatures are replicas of the original tools that were used many years ago, and feature different designs including double circles & hearts, animals, and girl shapes. These items are in very good shape, although we don’t know how old they are. Each one is made of wire with wooden handles (most are black wire).
Clink on our store link Debonaire Flea Market to view miniature versions of these once popular cleaning tools, or purchase one today as a reminder of years and times gone by.

Great deal on 1990 - 1991 baseball cards from your favorite teams.

Last chance of the year to get a great deal on some nice collector 1990 - 1991 baseball cards. Window clings.

Window clings will cling to most non-porous surfaces, and can be used on a lot of different surfaces and several different ways. Some possible uses for clings are on doors, dressers, walls, refrigerators, other wooden objects, and of course, windows. They seem to stay on the surface well, and are very easily removed. With clings, you can decorate any room, and also quickly decorate for a party. The good thing about using window clings for decoration is that when you are done, they can be easily removed from the surface, and another design added (or the object left undecorated). Clings can be used over and over again. It is much easier to remove clings than to cover surfaces that have been painted with several different colors. One negative note to mention is that if you put the cling against a surface with the wrong side down, there is a possibility that the paint may fade onto the surface.

Think outside the box, and clings can be used to decorate almost anything. They also make great party favors or gifts.

If you are interested in purchasing some cling sets cheaply, check out our ebay store Debonaire Flea Market . We have several different color clings listed (in sets of 6) for 75 cents per sheet including shipping. For Christmas this year, I received a gift from my 9 year old grandson that is the most priceless gift ever. It was a gift that was filled with love, thought, memories and consideration. All of my life, I have received many great gifts, but this was the greatest. To begin with, two weeks before Christmas, I was visiting him, and he told me he had a special gift for me and that it was under their tree. He showed me the package and said he had even wrapped it by himself. The package was wrapped in blue wrapping paper with deer on it. On top of the package was a red bracelet that said "Jingle All The Way" and had bells on it. So for the next two weeks, whenever I visited him, I tried to get him to tell me what the gift was (at this point, his mom had no idea either because she said he had done it himself and she didn’t know what was in it). At one point, I shook the box to see if I could tell what it was, but I didn’t know anything more than the fact that it wouldn’t break. Christmas Eve (which we always celebrate with my parents) several presents were opened, but he told my I had to wait until Christmas Day to open my present. Finally, Christmas Day arrived and I got to open my much anticipated present. The present was greater than anything I could have imagined. On the outside of the box he had written "I Mamall". On the inside it said "Dear Mamall I love you more. Thank you for everything you do for me. Merry Christmas". The present only gets better. Inside were 3 pictures he had drawn with mesages written on them. Also inside were items that were his but he had decided to give to me. These items included a football pillow (he had made in school the previous year); one of his stuffed animals; a purple & a gold bead necklace (these are his school colors, and he had won them at a school carnival); a paper airplane (we used to make airplanes and fly them); a container of FLOAM; a Matchbox car; a ring; a seashell (he & I had found seashells on the beach during a vacation to Florida); a moon shaped necklace filled with sand (he had made); a cross from one of his favorite necklaces; a zebra; several basketball & football cards (one of the cards was a player w/my husband’s name (no my husband isn’t a famous player)). He had also made a similar box for his papall. Needless to say, this was one Christmas present that I will never forget, and one that is worth more than all the money in the world. It was given in the true meaning of Christmas, with love by a very special person, and to me contains the most priceless gift that could ever be given.

2009 Charity Auction Thank You Certificate - Update on new location of Certificate

Update on the "2009 Charity Auction Thank You Certificate": Thank You certificate was purchased and has moved to it's new home in Ocala Florida. As you know, I had an auction and donated 100% of my proceeds of this auction to A Gift for the Future Children's Fund . For this auction, I listed an item I called the "2009 Charity Auction Thank You Certificate". This item is a framed certificate that thanks the purchaser for supporting a charity. It also features a place for you to leave a message on the side pages, and encourages you to list the certificate w/in a month as a charity auction for your favorite charity so someone else can purchase it and pass it on it’s way. It also contains information on emailing me so everyone can track the travels of this certificate throughout 2009. I will be updating the information on the whereabouts of this certificate through my blog, so you can keep track of it during the year. If you email the information when you re-list, I will also include that info on the blog, so others will have a chance to bid on the certificate. We began the journey of the "2009 Charity Auction Thank You Certificate" in December 2008. I have started the journey of this certificate, but can’t take the credit for the idea because I got the original idea from another ebay member, who many of you may know - PowerSellingMom.

Happy Holidays. Each day, I am going to post something different that I am thankful for. With the decline in the economy, fires and forces of nature destroying lives and homes; news forecasters always seeming bleak, and new president about to make history, I have decided to try to add a little optimism to life. I used to work for a newspaper, and had always wanted to do a "positive" article, so now I am doing just that (although some of the things I am thankful for will not always make everyone happy, hopefully most will bring back good memories & thoughts). When you read each additional "Today I’m thankful for " update, please take them in the positive, optimistic, manner in which they are written.
So here we go:
Today, Tuesday, November 18, 2008; I am thankful for my great family and friends. I am sure this is at (or near) the top of everyone’s list.

Today, Wednesday, November 19, 2009, I am thankful for the freedom that I have. Although sometimes freedom is taken for granted, I am thankful to be free to do what I want (like writing this blog). I think everyone has some reason to appreciate their freedom.

Today, Thursday, November 20, 2008, I am thankful for fun times. Memories of the fun times in your life make the days that aren’t going so well bearable. Everyone has memories of fun times in their life.

Today, Friday, November 21, 2008, I am thankful for "Fridays". It seems like everyone’s favorite day to wait for is Friday. Friday signifies an end to the work (or school) week for most people and a few days of family and free time. TGIF

Today, Saturday, November 22, 2008 I am thankful for love. I spent the day with one of my favorite people in the world, my grandson, and had such a great day. I am truly thankful for him and for all of the things in life that I love.

Today, Sunday, November 23, 2008, I am thankful for life. Life is what happens between birth and death, and can be both enjoyable and frustrating. Once, I was told that you can determine the quality of your day by the outlook you take, so for today, I am going to be thankful for life and the joy it brings.

Today, Monday, November 24, 2008, I am thankful for change. Change is what keeps life interesting - it also means that even though good times don’t last forever, the bad times won’t either. If life isn’t what you want it to be today, just hang in there, eventually, it will change. I am thankful for the changes in my life, because without change, I would have missed out on many joyous events.

Today, Tuesday, November 25, 2008, I am thankful for beauty. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I believe it is also in the way you think about things. To me beauty not only includes sunsets, oceans, and snow covered landscapes, but also people, places, and things (like a smile from my favorite grandson). Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but it is also everywhere around us. I am thankful for the beauty in my everyday life wherever I chose to see it.

Today, Wednesday, November 26, 2008, I am thankful for hope. No matter what happens in life, hope is what keeps us going, keeps our dreams alive, and keeps us looking forward to the future. I am thankful for hope - and hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday. Over and out until tomorrow (I’ve got cooking to do).

Today, Thursday, November 27, 2008, I am thankful for Holidays. Holidays bring joy and happiness to everyone. It’s a time to enjoy family & friends; be happy for our freedom; enjoy the fun times & cherish the memories; it’s almost Friday; enjoy love; life; and beauty; and hope that the future is bright. In other words, holidays are a combination of the things I am thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Today, Friday, November 28, 2008, I am thankful for peace. I am thankful that I live in a land where we have peace. Although our servicemen are involved in military actions in other areas of the world, for the most part, here at home, we live in peace. I think that today, Black Friday, is a good day to be thankful for peace while fighting the shopping crowds. I am thankful for the peace that I have, and wish for peace for the entire world.

Today, Saturday, November 29, 2008, I am thankful for technology. I am thankful for the changes in technology a that allow me to write and publish this blog. Technology has evolved greatly in my lifetime. When I was in school, we did not have computers, and at my first job, the computers that we used to run the business were giant boxes that filled an entire room. I am thankful for the technology that I now use and look forward to the changes in technology in the future.

Today, Sunday, November 30, 2008, I am thankful for health. A few days ago, I was thankful for life, but to expand on the life issue, I am thankful for health. After spending several hours with a close relative in the emergency room, I realized how precious good health is. Too many times, being healthy is taken for granted, and we do not realize how thankful we are for it until it is gone, so for today, I am going to be thankful that I am healthy enough to enjoy life.

Today, Monday, December 1, 2008, I am thankful for entertainment. Entertainment adds spice to our lives and uplifts our moods. Yesterday, I went to see the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, and it was spectacular. It put everyone at the show in the Christmas spirit. So today, I am thankful for entertainment rather it’s live or on tv; sports, shows, movies, watching grandchildren in plays or games, or any other form of entertainment, I am glad to have the time to relax and be entertained.

Today, Tuesday, December 2, 2008, I am thankful for enough. Although there are times when I would love to have a lot more (money, time, food, clothing, etc) I am thankful that I have just enough of whatever I need to get by. I can think about the times when I had an abundance of everything, but today, I am thankful for having enough of everything that I need.

Today, Wednesday, December 3, 2008, I am thankful for faith. Everyone has a form of faith, rather it is religious or just a complete trust in something else. Faith is needed to help overcome difficult times, and to keep us trusting in the future. Today, I am thankful for having faith in my life.

Today, Thursday, December 4, 2008 I am thankful for my great internet friends and acquaintances. After spending a couple of exhausting days at the hospital with a family member, I came home last night, thoroughly exhausted and depressed, and was reading some posts on Twitter, and visiting my e-Bay groups, and was reminded how great the people there are. One of the groups I am in, Starting 2 Sell, had chosen me as "Featured Star of the Month" for December. It was just the lift I needed and they will never know how much I appreciate it. The people in this group (and other groups) are such a great bunch of people, many of them donating (thru E-bay groups) to charity auctions, and always helping others. Like others, I have also received much needed advice and optimism (people posting usually don’t know it when they post) from a lot of the posts I have read on twitter, in these groups, and through emails. Keep up those great posts, you never know who you will be helping. So for today, I am extremely thankful for the wonderful internet friends & acquaintances that I have.

Today, Friday, December 5, 2008, I am thankful for protection. It is great to feel protected. It is because of protection that I am late posting this to my blog. Today, I tried to renew my protection program on my computer, and have not been able to connect to the internet due to some problems w/the downloads. I am sure that it is something that I did (although the nice people w/Live Chat would never tell you that), but at least I am back up & running. Anyway, for today, I am thankful for protection (and not just to my computer, but for all of the protection that I have in my life).

Today, Saturday, December 6, 2008 I am thankful for snow. We are experiencing our first real snow today, and the white blanket that is covering everything is so beautiful (I do not have to go out in it though). If you live in an area like I do where the weather changes all of the time, you understand why snow is one of the changes in the weather that I look forward to. The snow like the extreme heat in summer is not something that I would want all the time, but I do look forward to the changes in the seasons, and one of those changes are the snow that comes with the winter weather. If you live in an area like I do, one of our common sayings about the weather is that if you don’t like it, wait a while and it will change. So for today, I am thankful for snow and also thankful that it came on a weekend where a lot of people do not have to travel in it.

Today, Sunday, December 7, 2008, I am thankful for communication. Communication of all kind (verbal, written, newscasts, newspapers, radio, telephone, snail mail (letters), email, twitter, blogs, and many other types) keeps us informed and up to date not only on what is going on in the world, but what is going on with friends and family. With the increased technology in communication, it is easy to follow the lives of others and stay updated on what they are doing even when they are far away. I stay in contact with people who live outside the US (family, exchange students, and others), as well as friends and family in other states & cities, and it is nice to know what is going on in their life. So for today (and during this holiday season when I am in contact with others they I don’t see often), I am thankful for communication which keeps us in touch with life.

Today, Monday, December 8, 2008, I am thankful for quiet. I have just returned home after a very hectic, busy, stressful day, and right now, at this very moment, everything is quiet (except for my fingers pecking on the keyboard). So for today (and at this very moment), I am thankful for the quietness - no noise or disturbances, and for a few peaceful, calm moments.

Today, Tuesday, December 9, 2008, I am thankful for kindness. Kindness is one of those things that we do a lot of times without thinking, and it always makes other people feel better. Being kind is a way to show other that we care. Reading through another blog that I follow (Bylightofmoon), I came across a site that promotes Simply Kind Tuesdays. You can get more information by accesing this website: http://www.on-a-limb.com/simply-kind-tuesdays/ So for today, I am thankful for kindness, and will do something kind for someone else, not just today, but everyday.

Today, Wednesday, December 10, 2008, I am thankful for courtesy. Courtesy used to be a way of life with most people, but today, isn’t as common. In this busy hectic holiday season, I try to be more courteous to people than at any other time of year. With the holidays and the decline in the economy, when you meet people, you never know what is going on in their life, so a little courtesy may just brighten their day. A pleasant smile, thank you, or opening a door for someone doesn’t cost anything, but can bring great joy in someone else’s life. Like kindness, courtesy is priceless. For today, I am thankful for courtesy, rather it is given or received.

Today, Thursday, December 11, 2008, I am thankful for humor. Humor allows us to find the funny side of an experience and to laugh in times of adversity. Without humor, our life would be boring, so for today, I am thankful for humor:)

Today, Friday, December 12, 2008 I am thankful for archives. As I am posting this, I am listening to archives of a PowerSellingMom radio program on BlogTalk radio that I missed earlier today. Archives are a great way to listen to catch up on something that you may have missed at a earlier date, or something that you would like to know from many years before. Archives can also be used to trace family ancestry. For today, I am thankful for archives and all of the information available from them.

Today, Saturday, December 13, 2008, I am thankful for memories. While trying to decide what to blog about, I started thinking about things in my life I should be thankful for, and I started thinking about memories. Although times change, and people come in and out of your life, you still have memories that bring back the thoughts and times of the past. A certain song, smell (walking by a perfume counter and smelling my grandma’s favorite perfume) or other trigger can bring back memories of years gone by, so for today I am thankful for memories.

Today, Sunday, December 14, 2008 I am thankful for . I am leaving this post blank because as I go through today, like every other day, there are many things that I am thankful for. So if you are reading this post, you can take time today, right this minute, to fill in the blank as to what you are thankful for. Think about all you have to be thankful for, enjoy the minute, and have a Happy Day.

Today, Monday, December 15, 2008, I am thankful for advice. I have set a goal of trying to
learn one new thing on the internet per month, and last night as usual when I am trying to set up something new, I received much well and appreciated advice. Advice is out there for all of us,
all we have to do is to ask for it or be open to new ideas. I am going to try in the future to
become one of those helpful people I admire. For today, I am thankful for all of the people who
take time from their busy schedules to offer help and advice to others.

For today, Tuesday, December 16, 2008 I am thankful for surprises. When I woke today, I had multiple sales in my stores which was a first for me and a great surprise. Surprises are a fun thing to give and receive especially when they are unexpected. It is Tuesday (aka Kindness Tuesday), so I am doing something kind for someone today, and maybe it will be a surprise. What will your kind deed be for today..

For Wednesday, December 17, 2008 and Thursday, December 18, 2008 I am thankful for beginnings and endings. I am thankful that everything has a beginning and when it starts we never know what the outcome of it will be. We can only guess and hope for the best. I am also thankful for endings because most things in life also have an ending. If what we are experiencing has a great beginning and great results, then the end comes too soon, but if things are not as bright and cheerful as we like, we can always look forward to the end of it. So as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, even if we don’t want them too, but all bad things eventually come to an end too. (Sorry, but this is not the end of this post-it still has 13 more entries).

Today, Friday, December 19, 2008, I am thankful for serenity. During this hectic end of the year holiday season, I try to take a few minutes out of my busy day for a little bit of peace, quiet, and calmness so I can get things into perspective, then head back into the busy grind of things. So for today, I am thankful for a few minutes of serenity to help me through the rest of the day.

Today, Saturday, December 20 , 2008, I am thankful for similarities. While going through some pictures to send to my Danish daughter’s husband (a foreign exchange student from several yrs ago), I started to think about how much everyone in the world is alike in some ways. We have had several exchange students over the years, and although there were many differences in our lifestyles and cultures, there were many similar things we both believed in and did. One of the biggest similarities that remind me of this is that my daughters birthday is 10/10 and our exchange student’s birthday is 1/1. Both girls were about the same age and were so much alike. Enough reminiscing...for today, I will just be thankful for similarities.

Today, Sunday, December 21, 2008, I am thankful for attitudes. A positive attitude helps to maintain a positive outlook on life, and helps to achieve goals. So today, I am thankful for attitudes, and will try to maintain a positive attitude.

Today, Monday, December 22, 2008, I am thankful for traditions. This time of year, many people include traditions in their holiday celebrations. This year I am thinking about our original traditions (that I remember as a child), and about new ones that have been added over the years, so for today, I am thankful for the traditions that have been passed down through the years and for the new ones we will start.

Today, Tuesday, December 23, 2008, I am thankful for happiness. Happiness can be found in many different forms, and at this time of the year happiness can be found everywhere. So for
today, I will look for and enjoy the happiness all around me, and because it is Tuesday (aka
Kindness Tuesday), I will do something kind for someone, and hope that it brings happiness
into their life. Have a Happy Day:)

Today, Wednesday, December 24, 2008, I am thankful for opportunities. With the problems in the economy and the problems around the world, opportunities are still out there - all you need to do is to look at life in a positive manner, and take whatever opportunities come your way, so for today, I am thankful for opportunities.
Today, Thursday, December 25, 2008, I am thankful for Christmas. I realize that not everyone is a Christian or celebrates Christmas, but I am thankful for the birth of Jesus and for the joyous holiday season that it brings. Christmas to me is the accumulation of all the things I am thankful for, and on Christmas day, I try to remember all of the good things in life. So for today, I am thankful for Christmas (if you don’t celebrate Christmas, I am sure that you have a special day or time that you celebrate), and I wish you joy and happiness on this (or your) special day.
Today, Friday, December 26, 2008 I am thankful for my grandson. Although I have already posted about being thankful for family and love (and included him in both), I am so thankful to be blessed with this special person in my life. For Christmas, he gave me the greatest gift that I have ever received in my life. His gift was a box full of things that he had made (pictures and notes that he had written to me) and items that were his but also had memories of times we had spent together (seashell from trip to Daytona Beach, baseball cards, marbles, cross (necklace)), and many more items. He wrapped the package himself, and on top of it he attached a bracelet. For the last two weeks, he had told me that he had a special gift for me, and when I unwrapped it on Christmas Day, I realized just how special (and priceless) it was. He is only 9 years old, but has brought so much love, joy and happiness to my life, I can’t seem to remember life without him. So for today (and every other day), I am thankful that I have been lucky enough to be blessed with the greatest grandson on earth.
Today, Saturday, December 27, 2008, I am thankful for joy. Now that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is winding down (New Years Day is just around the corner) it is a good time to sit back and reminisce about the joy that I have experienced throughout the year. Although there have been a lot of times that weren’t so joyous, if I concentrate on the joyous things, this year hasn’t been all that bad, so for today, I am thankful for joy.
Today, Sunday, December 28, 2008 I am thankful for perception. All through life, everyone has their own perception of situations, and I am thankful for the differences that we all have about our outlook on life and situations. We can each view things in a totally different way, but that doesn’t make anyone right or wrong-it is just their views on life, so for today, I am thankful for everyone’s individual perception on life.

Today, Monday, December 29, 2008 I am thankful for the past. The past is a part of my life that has effected things that happen in the present and will continue to effect things in the future. The past is part of what I have become, and will continue to be. The good (and the bad) experiences that happen in the past are still a very big part of my life, and I am thankful for all of them, and for the changes that they have had on my life. So as the year begins to wind down, I am thankful for the past and all of the memories and lessons I have learned from it.

Today, Tuesday, December 30, 2008, I am thankful for the present. The present time may not be one of the greatest economic times in history, but it is what we have and what we have to deal with. Just as the past will effect our future, so will the present, so I am thankful for the present (remember that "present" also means a gift, so I am thankful for the gift of today). Because this is my last Tuesday thankful blog for 2008, please remember Tuesdays as "Kindness Tuesday", and continue to do something kind for someone each Tuesday. Once again, here is a link to the Kindness Tuesday website http://www.on-a-limb.com/simply-kind-tuesdays/ Have a great Tuesday, and pass along some kindness.

Today, Wednesday, December 31, 2008, I am thankful for the future and for making it through the year 2008. Although the year has brought many challenges, I am thankful that I survived it, and am looking forward to beginning a bright, prosperous, happy new year. This is my last post for this blog and I would like to wish you a bright prosperous, happy new year and hope that 2009 is the year that your dreams come true:) 2009 is going to be fine..............

E-Bay Selling Tips Group Charity Auction

Interested in purchasing a Christmas ornament from E-Bay and helping the victims of Hurricane Ike? These cards are in excellent condition and are a part of a large collection that I have acquired while collecting sport cards for my grandson. I have thousands of cards from the early 1990's which I will eventually be listing as soon as I found the correct way to list them for sale (ie: team sets, individual cards, or individual players). These sets include many popular players and would make wonderful gifts for your favorite baseball fans or too add to your collection, so stop by my store and take a look at the listings . I have been pondering that same question for many months now, and decided to finally jump in and BLOG. This is my first blog (and maybe only).

Trying to decide what to blog about is a problem for many people, but I like to write, so I imagine that I could probably blog about just about anything (as you can tell from this Blog). After you decide what subject to blog about, from what I've read, you just need to jump in and start typing and let your fingers do the talking.
